Dynamics 365 v9 environment requirements

server software & hardware recommended requirements for v9 on-premises production servers

  • SQL Hardware
    • Quad-core x64 architecture 2 GHz CPU or higher 
    • SAS RAID 5 or RAID 10 hard disk array
    • 16 GB RAM for a new installation, 32 GB for system being upgraded, 64 GB for systems with over 200 users with background workflows
  • IIS Application Hardware (Front-End Server)
    • Quad-core x64 architecture 2 GHz CPU or higher 
    • 8 GB RAM for a new installation, 16 GB for system being upgraded or with more than 50 users
  • Software Requirements
    • x64 systems only
    • Windows Server 2016 : Standard or Datacenter (only these 2 are supported)
    • Server core installation supported for most roles when installed in silent mode (help & report roles not supported in core)
    • Hyper-V and SVVP approved solutions supported
    • Active Directory modes: 2008, 2008R2, 2012, 2012R2, 2016
    • IIS 10, recommended to enable prior to CRM installation
    • SQL Server Editions
      • 2017 : Enterprise or Standard (requires CRM Update 0.3)
      • 2016 : Enterprise or Standard with Service Pack 2
  • Claims (forms and o-auth) requirements (required for Outlook apps & Mobile Apps)
    • AD FS versions : v2.1 (on 2012), or 2012 R2 AD FS, or 2016 AD FS
    • Install AD FS first if setting up on the same server with Dynamics 365 IIS App. AD FS will use the Default IIS directory...setup a new one for Dynamics 365
    • SSL Certificates from Trusted Authority (*.domain.com), CRMAppPool account must have read permissions to this cert
